Unless that's a specific type of art style, the shading could be a tad smoother for my tastes (looks better at a distance), but I like the overall composition. Reminds me a bit of pokemon card art... if they're still doing card designs in this general style.
Reading the other comments... I wouldn't worry too much about the whole 'beak' thing. I've seen a lot of interpretations of charmander, and I don't think this isn't all that unusual.
